About emerald-flux
The story behind our mission to make UK service comparisons clearer and more accessible.
How We Started
emerald-flux began in 2019 with a simple frustration: finding reliable information about everyday services in the UK was unnecessarily difficult. Review sites were either outdated, suspiciously positive, or focused on a narrow slice of the market.
Our founding team—a mix of journalists, consumer researchers, and technology specialists—set out to build something different. We wanted a resource that approached service reviews with the same rigour applied to product journalism, but focused specifically on the delivery and convenience services that increasingly shape daily life.
What started as a blog comparing meal kit services has grown into a comprehensive guide covering everything from grocery delivery to home repairs. We remain independent and committed to the editorial standards that made readers trust us from the beginning.
"The best review is one that helps you make a decision quickly, without second-guessing whether the information is genuine."— Our Editorial Principle
What We Stand For
The principles that guide every review we publish.
Transparency
We disclose our methodology, update timestamps, and any affiliate relationships. If we have not personally tested a service, we say so clearly.
Quality Over Quantity
We would rather cover fewer services well than rush out thin comparisons. Each review goes through multiple rounds of fact-checking before publication.
Accuracy
Pricing and availability change constantly. We commit to quarterly reviews of all published content and immediate updates when significant changes occur.
Balance
Every service has strengths and weaknesses. We highlight both, helping you decide whether a particular trade-off works for your situation.
The Team
A small group with diverse expertise in consumer research, technology, and editorial standards.
Formerly at Which? and the Financial Times, Eleanor brings fifteen years of consumer journalism experience. She oversees editorial standards and ensures every piece meets our quality benchmarks.
Marcus manages our testing programmes and coordinates reader feedback collection. His background in market research helps us structure comparisons that answer real user questions.
Lisa specialises in food delivery and meal kit services. Her detailed breakdowns of pricing structures and hidden fees have become some of our most-read content.
Our Journey
Key moments in building emerald-flux into the resource it is today.
Launch
Started with eight meal kit service comparisons and a weekly newsletter. Early readership came primarily from word-of-mouth recommendations.
Rapid Expansion
Demand for home delivery information surged. We expanded coverage to grocery services, parcel delivery, and home cleaning within six months.
Reader Feedback System
Launched our community review feature, allowing readers to contribute their experiences directly to our database.
Regional Coverage
Began systematic coverage of Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, noting regional availability differences that national reviews often miss.
150 Services Milestone
Reached comprehensive coverage across twelve categories, from pet care to laundry services. Monthly readership exceeded 40,000.
Ongoing Refinement
Focused on improving existing content quality, faster update cycles, and expanding our comparison tools.
Recognition and Standards
External validation of our commitment to quality.
